Promoting Healthy Communities and Access to inclusive, quality sports programming for all kids.
Athletics allow us to aspire, to rise toward our best selves and bask in the incredible support of our community. The Eaton Family-Athlon is about bringing our community together to ensure all kids have those kinds of opportunities.
On June 5, 2021, our community will gather together for a fun multi-element, track-and field style event (see our COVID-19 protocols). It is an opportunity open to all to put a goal on the horizon, whether one is eight or 85, working to become healthier after the COVID-19 hibernation.
Participants in the Eaton Family-Athlon will be entered to win amazing prizes such as hospitality or a ticket to a premier event at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
Proceeds from the event will benefit key community organizations making it possible for ALL youth to access inclusive, quality sports programming.

For individuals interested in participating in the Eaton Family-Athlon in some way but lacking a desire to run a 400 Meter, the 5K can be entered as a stand-alone event. There is also an opportunity to participate in the 5K virtually. Participants, both men and women, who complete the race in a Prefontaine-inspired costume or mustache or a Flo-Jo-Inspired costume or nails will gain an extra entry into the prize-pool lottery.
The In-person 5K: The 5K will likely include a series of loops on the City of Eugene's Amazon Running Trails. COVID-19 protocol includes a staggered start with runners starting 15 seconds apart. Runners will receive their anticipated start-time before the event.
The Virtual 5K Option: Runners/walkers that sign up for the virtual race can gain inspiration, prepare and participate like other participants, but will have the luxury of choosing their own starting line, whether it's a treadmill or a neighborhood street. Sometime during the week of the Eatons Family-Athlon, participants will run/walk the race distance and upload their finishing time.

Defeating cycles of poverty and disadvantage, like many hard-won victories, isn't easy, but it can be done. Friends of the Children–Lane County partners with youth and families facing a path strewn with hurdles most of us will never have to face. Friends of the Children helps those families overcome these obstacles by providing families with a professional mentor from the time the youth is 4-6 years old until they graduate high school– 12+ years, no matter what! This level of support is what it takes to ensure that all kids can get to the starting line.
KIDSPORTS mission is simple "all kids play." Research shows that children who participate in sports and regular physical activity get better grades, stay in school longer, and are more likely to stay active and healthy for their entire lifetime. Active healthy kids become healthy adults who in turn make for active healthy communities. That's something we can get behind.
In addition to creating opportunities to play for almost 4,000 children last year, KIDSPORTS teaches coaches how to build children up and emphasizes the joyful elements of sports.
All Kids Play.
