Meet Miss Kat, a distinguished alumna of the University of Oregon, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts with honors. Originating from the vibrant streets of Miami, her multicultural background enriches her commitment to cultural awareness and intersectionality. Fluent in both English and Spanish, she proudly waves her Guatemalan-American flag high.
With over five years of experience in education, Miss Kat has been a source of inspiration within the Springfield School District, the Lane Migrant Education Program, and beyond. She was also the founder of Lane County's first dual immersion preschool program, River Cubs Dual Immersion Preschool. Whether leading summer camps in Cottage Grove, teaching in classrooms, or tutoring aspiring learners, she is dedicated to making a positive impact.
As a passionate storyteller and children’s advocate, Miss Kat creates an inclusive environment where children can explore their identities and feel seen. Utilizing the Conscious Discipline Curriculum, she's all about helping little ones master the art of self-regulation. She also embraces the Reggio-Emilia approach, viewing each child as a wellspring of curiosity and potential. Keeping pace with contemporary trends, she may be found "doing homework" by watching the latest episodes of Bluey, the newest Minecraft movie, or updating her Pokémon knowledge.
Outside the classroom, Miss Kat is a creative dynamo, indulging in photography, filming adventures, and engaging in various art projects. She enjoys getting out of town for new experiences, binge-watching her favorite series, and spending quality time with her charming Yorkie companion, Teddy.
